At last week’s Road to Majority conference, the American Society for the Defense of Tradition, Family, and Property (TFP), a far-right Catholic group known for the bright red sashes worn by its members at public events, offered handouts titled “10 Reasons why Transgenderism is the Family’s Worst Enemy,” and “10 Reasons why Homosexual ‘Marriage’ is Harmful and Must be Opposed.”
TFP was one of several far-right organizations sponsoring the Faith and Freedom Coalition’s annual Road to Majority conference. The pamphlets they distributed compare same-sex marriage to “counterfeit currency,” and call the transgender movement “tyrannical” and a first step to “Trans-species” and “animal rule.” The group falsely claims that the transgender movement leads to child abuse, citing a study published by the American College of Pediatricians, which is not the major group for pediatricians but a smaller organization designated as an anti-LGBTQ hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center.
TFP also gave out a handout that declared “To Make America Great, Turn back to God,” which advocated for the “Enthroning [of] God” over “secular rage.”
“For too long, political correctness has held sway, banishing God from His rightful place in society,” it reads. “If she is to prosper and be great, America must enthrone God Again.”
The materials of sponsoring groups were made available to the hundreds of attendees as well as the conservative politicians and Trump administration officials featured in the high-profile conference. Presenters included Scott Pruitt, Ben Carson, Kellyanne Conway, and Rep. Kevin McCarthy, Sens. Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, and Mitch McConnell, Speaker Paul Ryan, and Vice President Mike Pence.
