President Donald Trump’s campaign committee is teaming up with the RNC and Senate Majority Mitch McConnell’s campaign committee to offer campaign contributors a T-shirt proclaiming “Back to Back Supreme Court Champs”—but the profiles on the shirt are not of Supreme Court Justices Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh but of Trump and McConnell.
“President Trump and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell just keep WINNING,” says the promotional page being promoted via text messaging. “They confirmed TWO conservative Supreme Court Justices in the past 2 years.”
Team Trump promises these new T-shirts will “drive liberals crazy." Just last month, Team Trump capitalized on right-wing outrage surrounding paper straws, and raised more than $200,000 selling supporters plastic straws under the premise of “owning the libs.”
Of course, the harm that is already being caused by Trump-nominated and McConnell-approved judges is no laughing matter. But things could get far worse if a totally Trumpified Supreme Court and federal judiciary are able to carry out the far-right dream of rolling back the clock on more than 80 years of social justice progress, dismantling the New Deal and Great Society programs like Social Security and Medicare, and dramatically restricting the ability of the federal government to regulate corporations and act on behalf of individuals, communities, and the common good.
McConnell, who abused the power of his office to refuse to allow the Senate to take up President Barack Obama’s Supreme Court nomination of Judge Merrick Garland, has recently bragged smugly to Religious Right activists about slow-walking Obama’s judicial nominees to create the maximum number of vacancies for Trump to fill—which McConnell is doing at a record pace.
In 2018, as Right Wing Watch reported, McConnell told attendees of the Family Research Council’s Values Voter Summit, “If we can hold onto the Senate for the next two years, then we’re going to transform the federal judiciary for a generation.”
If, in spite of all that, you are interested in getting your hands on a T-shirt featuring the likenesses of Trump and McConnell—with the names of Gorsuch and Kavanaugh on the sleeves—send your $35 now because the “limited time only” offer is good until 11:59 tonight.
The default setting is for contributions to be split evenly between the McConnell Senate Committee and the Trump Make American Again Committee—a joint fundraising committee of Donald J. Trump for President and the RNC. That piece of the contribution goes 75 percent to Trump and 25 percent to the RNC.
