David Horowitz, a right-wing columnist and founder of a self-named think tank with ties to far-right activists, said in an interview last week that President Donald Trump is a key figure in a fight to keep America a “Judeo-Christian” nation, adding that if Religious Right activists don’t fight back, there “won’t be churches in America.”
Newsmax host John Bachman asked Horowitz to elaborate on the assertion he made in his new book, "Dark Agenda," that Trump is the “nexus in this war in keeping America a Judeo-Christian country and the progressives want to abolish religion, and so they want to destroy President Trump too.” Bachman asked, “Is that really what’s going on?"
“Yes,” Horowitz said. “That’s exactly what’s going on. They hate Trump because he’s an American patriot. That’s the first thing about Trump. And because he’s an American patriot, he respects its origins, which are religious.”
He added, directly speaking to Christian viewers, “If you don’t defend your freedoms, your religious freedom, in particular, you’re not going to have it anymore. There won’t be churches in America.”
Horowitz, who personally identifies as an atheist Jew, is flocked to by Republican politicians despite his revisionist history. His annual conferences in Florida and South Carolina routinely harbor an eclectic collection of far-right figures and politicians.
