NRA spokesperson Dana Loesch, who has made a spectacle deriding NFL player Colin Kaepernick for his silent protests against police brutality by kneeling while the national anthem was played at football games, invoked a time that Kaepernick was named and then exonerated in a sexual assault investigation to argue that Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh may be innocent of the sexual assault allegations brought before him.
Kavanaugh is currently facing multiple allegations of sexual misconduct against women during his youth, which he has vehemently denied. Loesch, like many others at this weekend’s Values Voter Summit in Washington, D.C., eagerly took to the task of contesting the allegations against Kavanaugh while attacking liberals for requesting a vote to confirm Kavanaugh be delayed while the claims are investigated.
“I don’t know Brett Kavanaugh, personally. I don’t know that many of us here in this room actually do. But what I do know and what I do trust is our system of law and order and I think that in this system, this republic for which men and women have fought and died, in which many of our family members have shed blood, I think that that phrase ‘guilty until proven innocent’ (sic) means something,” Loesch said. “Maybe this is an unpopular thing to say, but nobody knows what truly happened. All I know is this, is that in our system when someone is found guilty they should pay for their crimes. That’s what law-abiding, God-fearing people believe. “
She then pivoted, adding, “But, sometimes accusers can be wrong.”
Loesch then brought up an incident from 2014 when a woman told police that she might have been drugged and sexually assaulted after getting drinks with Kaepernick and other football players. Miami police found no evidence that she had been drugged or that she was the victim of sexual assault.
“I ask, where was the left then? Everyone talks about Kaepernick now, but where were they in 2014, or are we still only ‘believing all women’? See, that’s the thing. It’s exclusionary. Sometime they’re wrong,” Loesch said.
Later in her speech to VVS, Loesch said that the way liberals are handling the Kavanaugh allegations is proof that they are trying to “usurp due process” and that it should motivate conservatives to vote in the midterm elections.
