Ahead of a Washington Post report detailing allegations from four women that Roy Moore, the Alabama Republican nominee for Senate, romantically pursued them when they were teenagers and Moore was in his 30s, Breitbart News attempted to delegitimize the story and provide cover for Moore.
Today, the Post reported on-record accounts of four women who allege that Moore sought relationships with them when they were teenagers. One woman says that Moore pursued her when she was 14 years old and initiated a sexual encounter with her. The report states it was “based on interviews with more than 30 people who said they knew Moore between 1977 and 1982, when he served as an assistant district attorney for Etowah County in northern Alabama, where he grew up.”
Shortly before the Washington Post story broke, Breitbart’s front page blared headlines attempting to discredit the upcoming allegations: “WashPost Plans to Hit Roy Moore with Allegations of Inappropriate Relations with Teens,” “Judge Fires Back: Smear Campaign,” “Bezos’s Paper Endorsed Democrat in Alabama.”
Breitbart’s article also attempted to discredit the Washington Post report with unrelated information about the newspaper’s ownership and endorsement of Moore’s opponent:
The Post is owned by Nash Holdings LLC, a holding company for billionaire Amazon founder and open borders champion Jeffrey Bezos.
The newspaper formally endorsed Moore’s Democratic opponent Doug Jones in the senate race.
In a series of articles, Breitbart News has documented Jones’s close associations with far-left groups financed by George Soros that push open borders and a host of radical causes.
Steve Bannon, Breitbart leader and former White House strategist, has campaigned for Moore and used Breitbart to boost Moore's campaign and attack his opponents. Some journalists have pointed out that it appears Moore went to Breitbart to pre-emptively deny the claims after his campaign was reached for comment.
