The anti-choice legal group Americans United for Life is fundraising off rumors of a coming Supreme Court vacancy, writing in an email to supporters today that another vacancy filled by President Trump could finally give the movement “a real chance to overturn Roe v. Wade.”
The email, signed by AUL president Catherine Glenn Foster and with the subject line ‘Winning the Abortion War,” also boasted of what it said was the group’s role in enacting 99 new abortion restrictions across the country in the past six years:
Have you seen the headlines about a possible upcoming vacancy on the Supreme Court? Many strategists, including AUL’s own team of legal experts, are speculating that we may finally see a real chance to overturn Roe v. Wade! This would return the life issue to the states, something AUL started working for even before Roe forced abortion on Americans, declaring that pro-life laws protecting mothers and children across the country were unconstitutional.
And pro-life laws are on the move nationwide, thanks in large part to AUL’s model bills and unique strategy of state-by-state advocacy. The Guttmacher Institute, a pro-abortion think tank, frets that 338 abortion restrictions have been passed over the past six years. AUL is at the forefront of the legal strategy leading to this legislation, and has been involved hands-on to ensure the passage of ninety-nine of these laws.
The Family Research Council has also been fundraising off a potential vacancy on the court, with the group’s president, Tony Perkins, writing in an email earlier this week that FRC is “working behind the scenes to help review prospective nominees”:
According to inside sources, President Trump may soon have another Supreme Court vacancy to fill. And it will make the last nomination fight look like a picnic.
Even with the appointment of Justice Gorsuch, constitutional conservatives do not have a majority on America's highest court. (If we did, same-sex marriage would not be the law of the land.)
So FRC has been working behind the scenes to help review prospective nominees and encourage President Trump to appoint another strong constitutional conservative in the mold of Neil Gorsuch. Getting another pro-life, pro-religious freedom Supreme Courtjustice is essential to protect faith, family, and freedom for your children and grandchildren.
…
Those opposed to religious freedom fully realize what's at stake. Supreme Court justices are appointed for life. A conservative majority will spell disaster for their agenda to silence, marginalize, and even punish Christians who dare to live their faith.
Left-wing politicians, D.C., Hollywood special interests, and others will do anything and everything-character assassination in the media...delay tactics...intimidation...and outright obstruction-to prevent a conservative nominee from being confirmed.
