Ann Coulter, a mainstream right-wing pundit who is quite cozy with white nationalists, said that the opioid crisis in the United States wouldn’t exist if there was a border wall between the United States and Mexico.
The United States Health and Human Services agency has declared that opioid drug overdoses are an “epidemic” that was spurred on by reckless pharmaceutical companies that falsely assured medical professionals that opioid pain relievers were not addictive. But pundits like Coulter have co-opted the issue to further their anti-immigrant agenda by blaming the crisis on undocumented immigrants entering the country unlawfully in order to advocate for a U.S.-Mexico border wall.
On the August 22 episode of the CRTV show hosted by Eric Bolling, a former Fox News host who was axed by the network after reports that he sent lewd messages to his female colleagues, Coulter urged Trump to ratchet up his anti-immigrant rhetoric even louder than it’s been.
“He also ought to hit the heroin issue hard. There would be no heroin problem in this country but for the fact that we do—“
“Fentanyl,” Bolling interjected, referring to a narcotic that has spliced its way into the opioid crisis and is responsible for thousands of deaths.
“—and Fentanyl—we do not have a wall on our border. I mean, he used that very well during the campaign and that’s why I’m a little testy with him for not building it,” Coulter said.
Coulter went on to blame “liberals and the absence of a wall” for the existence of the MS-13 street gang in the U.S. and claimed that conservatives could “trick the left into supporting pedophilia by saying, ‘Trump’s for it. Where do you guys stand?’”
