Drenda Keesee is a right-wing pastor, broadcaster, and conspiracy theorist who ran for a county commissioner office in Knox County, Ohio, last year because, she says, Jesus told her to do so. After winning the Republican primary, Keesee was essentially assured a spot on the county commission since she was running unopposed.
Prior to taking office, Keesee made no secret that Seven Mountains theology would play a central role in her governing philosophy, declaring that the "hand of God" was responsible for her primary victory because God wants certain kinds of Christians to take "our place in the [Seven] Mountains of influence and leadership."
Seven Mountain Dominionism is a right-wing theology that teaches that far-right Christians are to “do whatever is necessary” to take control of the seven main “mountains” that shape our culture—education, government, media, business, arts and entertainment, family, and religion—in order to bring every aspect of law and society into alignment with their right-wing “biblical worldview.”
On Tuesday, following her first meeting as a city commissioner, Keesee posted a video on social media urging other far-right Christians to run for office in order to "take on the Seven Mountains" and "bring righteousness and God's plans for the government" to the nation.
"This is my new office," Keese said. "It's an opportunity for us to take on the Seven Mountains, to bring righteousness and God's plans for the government. Governments are important, we know. So much so that early, in the Garden [of Eden], Satan wanted the governmental authority, and he basically deceived Adam and Eve into handing over the authority on the Earth, which required Jesus to come in and to give us back our authority and redeem us from the curse of the law of sin that was set in motion—and death—because of Adam and Eve's decision."
"So we should be involved in government," she continued. "The Bible says, 'When the righteous rule, the people rejoice' and 'Sin is a reproach to any nation or any people.'"
"I would encourage any of you that are considering running for office, it is a calling to be in government," she added. "It is a calling to take on any of those mountains of education and arts and music and media. There's all these areas we need to share God's kingdom principles so that we can have righteousness rule."
