Last year, former Fox News host Tucker Carlson conducted an interview with a Holocaust revisionist who insisted that British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, not German Fuhrer Adolf Hitler, was the “chief villain of the Second World War.”
The podcast was widely condemned, but Christian nationalist pseudo-historian David Barton knows who is really at fault: Progressives.
Barton recently appeared on a podcast hosted by far-right rabbi Daniel Lapin, who wondered how anyone could be ignorant enough to believe the "manure" that was being spread by Carlson and his guest, Darryl Cooper. Barton responded by incoherently arguing that somehow progressives were to blame.
"To me, he sounded like a moron," Lapin said. "How does a moron get away with saying that Churchill was the villain of World War II?"
"This is not rocket science," Lapin added. "It's really easy to discover that Churchill did everything possible to make a war less likely and a German victory unlikely. How do many people listen to this? What's happened? Why are people vulnerable to this sort of manure?"
"This is something that progressives have taught," Barton replied, "and that is that labels are everything and content is nothing."
"They look for labels and it's got to be the right label," he continued. "It's not based on what you know or what you believe, it's based on whether you agree with them and if you agree with them, they'll credential you. This is part of the progressive stuff where that America didn't have a PhD program to speak of until the progressives got it and brought it in. Thank you, America. Even in 'Mein Kampf,' Hitler credits the American progressives with giving him the ideas on eugenics, going back to Woodrow Wilson and others."
"The record of progressives is so, so bad and yet they have the cleanest record among themselves," Barton said. "If you go to university, you'll think progressives hung the moon. They did everything. They hung the sun and the moon. And yet they're responsible for tens of millions of lost lives, and therefore they credential these nonsensical guys that talk about how Churchill [was responsible for WWII]. Anybody who knows [will go] look something up, but this is the thing with progressives is they never challenge you on sources."
It should be noted that Carlson and Cooper and other MAGA-aligned Holocaust revisionists are hardly "progressives," but are actually far-right ideologues.
But that obviously doesn't matter to Barton, who is more interested in finding absurd ways to blame progressives for every evil in the world.
