WASHINGTON, D.C.— Following today's passage of the Equal Rights Amendment in the Virginia General Assembly, PFAW Political Director and Director of the PFAW Latinos Vote! program Lizet Ocampo released the following statement:

"We are thrilled that the new Democratic majority in the Virginia General Assembly has made the Equal Rights Amendment one of its first priorities as it enters this new session. This is proof positive that elections matter, and that the people of Virginia now have a state government that reflects their values. People For the American Way supported numerous progressive candidates in the state legislative races because we knew they would make Virginians' lives better from day one. Now it's happening, and we couldn't be more excited."

People For the American Way endorsed 40 Democratic candidates in Virginia's 2019 elections through the PFAW Next Up Victory Fund, providing support via earned media, financial contributions, organizing, canvassing, digital and social campaigning and mobilization of our membership. PFAW's Latinos Vote! initiative also provided earned media, and sponsored Spanish-language broadcast and digital ads in numerous races.

About Latinos Vote!

PFAW’s Latinos Vote! program exposes and counters anti-immigrant, anti-Latino rhetoric and policies. Through electoral work, we hold groups, leaders and influencers accountable at the polls for the harm they do to immigrant and Latino communities.
