WASHINGTON--In response to the confirmation of Stephanos Bibas, the last of four nominees to U.S. Courts of Appeals pushed through by Senator Mitch McConnell this week, People For the American Way Executive Vice President Marge Baker issued the following statement:

“If anyone wanted to know whether Republicans are still willing to vote in lockstep with Donald Trump despite the darkening shadow over his administration, this week gave us the answer. Since Trump was inaugurated, his unconstitutional, illegal agenda has repeatedly been stopped by federal judges willing to stand up for the rule of law and the principles of the constitution; yet Republicans have made clear that they’re perfectly willing to help Donald Trump fill the courts with jurists far more likely to rubberstamp his overreach. Americans now face four more biased partisans on the federal courts of appeals—that’s bad news for anyone who cares about the Constitution and our democracy.”

People For the American Way sent letters to Capitol Hill opposing the confirmation of all four nominees confirmed by the Senate this week:

People For the American Way is a progressive advocacy organization founded to fight right-wing extremism and defend constitutional values including free expression, religious liberty, equal justice under the law, and the right to meaningfully participate in our democracy.
