Washington, D.C.—Today, journalists for the Wall Street Journal and CNN reported on Twitter that President Donald Trump launched an attack on Deborah Ramirez’s credibility. Ramirez is the second woman to accuse Brett Kavanaugh of sexual misconduct. People For the American Way Executive Vice President Marge Baker released the following statement in response:
“President Trump is in no way qualified to assess the credibility of a survivor of sexual assault, and his tirade is an insult to survivors—as if an intoxicated woman should simply expect to be assaulted. Bluntly, he should exercise some self-control and instead call for a thorough FBI investigation into Brett Kavanaugh’s behavior, both in relation to Dr. Blasey Ford and Ms. Ramirez. Failing to do so will simply inflame the situation further, needlessly traumatize other survivors who read his baseless assessments, and continue to highlight the irresponsibility of pushing forward with a hearing and vote this week.”
Trump’s tirade follows an outbreak of laughter at the United Nations General Assembly after the president said, "In less than two years, my administration has accomplished more than almost any administration in the history of our country.”
