WAshington, D.C.— In response to the latest controversy surrounding Virginia state Senator Amanda Chase's militant rhetoric and positions opposing common-sense gun safety measures, including a Facebook ad in which she threatened to "shoot down" gun safety groups, PFAW Political Director and Director of the PFAW Latinos Vote! program Lizet Ocampo released the following statement:
"Amanda Chase's attempts to blame the appalling language in her Facebook ad on her advertising agency show she is more concerned about her own electoral prospects than the safety of her fellow Virginians. Chase's problem is clear: she is a radical who is out of step with the growing majority of Virginians who favor common-sense gun safety measures. Her complaints about the NRA's failure to donate heavily to her campaign, after she blocked gun safety measures during the special session, also reveal where her real concerns lie. Voters in the 11th Senate district can see that this is not a candidate who cares about working for them and addressing the issues that matter in their lives."
People For the American Way's Next Up Victory Fund has endorsed Chase's opponent, Amanda Pohl, in the Virginia Senate District 11 election this year.
