Washington, D.C. — In advance of tomorrow's anticipated vote by the Harris County Commissioners' Court, on whether to rename Houston's Robert E. Lee Road Dolores Huerta Road, People For the American Way President Ben Jealous released the following statement:

“This is a great opportunity for Houston and Harris County to show leadership in the middle of a nationwide debate over remaining Confederate symbols. Dolores Huerta is a true American hero who continues to fight for human rights, such as civil rights, workers' rights, immigrants' rights, and women’s rights. We're proud to claim her as a member of our People For the American Way board and we urge the county commissioners to vote in favor of renaming this Houston street in her honor. Dolores Huerta is exactly the kind of icon we should honor in our public spaces: one whose name brings inspiration, not pain, to the community."
