People For the American Way (PFAW) has hired Lizet Ocampo to serve as manager of political campaigns and the director of its Latinos Vote! program, the organization announced today. Ocampo brings with her significant electoral and policy experience in areas including the Latino vote, immigration policy, civil rights, and voting rights.

Most recently, Ocampo was associate director of immigration at the Center for American Progress, working as an advisor and strategist for CAP’s Action Fund on immigration, anti-immigrant hate and Latino vote work. She has also served as vice president of campaigns for Latino Victory Project, national regional political director for President Obama’s 2012 re-election campaign, and associate director in the Office of Public Engagement for the Presidential Inaugural Committee. In addition, her past experience includes working for the White House’s Office of Legislative Affairs and Democratic House Whip Steny Hoyer’s leadership office. Ocampo received her B.A. and M.A. from Stanford University.

“We’re so glad to have Lizet join the PFAW team,” said PFAW President Michael Keegan. “Her expertise in the policy and electoral arenas makes her the perfect leader for PFAW’s Latinos Vote! program. With the dangerous rhetoric we’re hearing every day from Republican candidates and elected officials at every level, there couldn’t be a more important time for Lizet to join our team.”

Lizet Ocampo said, “Latino voters can and will determine who wins the elections this November, from local races to the presidential election. I’m looking forward to working with PFAW to push back against the dangerous rhetoric and policies coming from the far right and Republican candidates with their Latinos Vote! program, and to managing PFAW’s electoral work in such a pivotal election year.”

PFAW is a progressive advocacy organization founded to fight right-wing extremism and defend constitutional values including free expression, religious liberty, equal justice under the law, and the right to meaningfully participate in our democracy. PFAW’s Latinos Vote! program works to expose and counter anti-immigrant, anti-Latino rhetoric from Republican and far-right candidates, leaders, and elected officials.
