Washington, D.C. - As we approach tomorrow’s one-year anniversary of the passing of Rep. John Lewis, People For the American Way President Ben Jealous released the following statement:
“John Lewis was a civil rights hero, a legend, and a friend. He inspired millions in his lifetime and continues to inspire us today. His life’s mission was to protect the voting rights of all Americans and, shamefully, today we are witnessing efforts to turn back the clock on all that John and his fellow civil rights warriors accomplished. The best way to honor him today is to pass his namesake bill, the John Lewis Voting Rights Act, as well as the For the People Act, which incorporates provisions John fought for during his lifetime. This Congress and this administration must not let the legacy of this great man die on their watch.”
