Washington, DC—Following today’s vote in the House in favor of legislation to create a bipartisan commission to investigate the January 6 domestic terrorist attack on the Capitol, People For the American Way President Ben Jealous released the following statement:
“Today’s House vote for a bipartisan commission is a critically important step toward preventing another domestic terrorist assault on our democracy like the one we experienced on January 6. Unfortunately, some Republican politicians, including House Minority Leader McCarthy and Senate Minority Leader McConnell, are choosing to oppose it for cynical, partisan political reasons. That’s unacceptable. The American people deserve to know the truth about January 6. If some members of Congress want to stand in the way, it’s up to those with a conscience to overrule them and move forward with an investigation. Anything less is a permission slip for violent extremists to attack again.”
