WASHINGTON, D.C. — Following the Senate confirmation of Serena Raquel Murillo (CD CA), the 235th lifetime judge named by President Joe Biden, People For the American Way President Svante Myrick released the following statement:
“Today’s confirmation marks enormous progress and a historic achievement by President Biden and Senate Democrats, led by Majority Leader Schumer and Senate Judiciary Chair Durbin. Biden has named more, highly qualified, judges than any president in a single term in nearly 50 years. These judges represent the rich diversity of the American experience more fully than we have seen from any previous administration: Black women, Native Americans, Hispanics, AAPI, LGBTQ+ individuals, public defenders, labor and environmental practitioners, civil rights and public interest lawyers. But the job isn’t done. The Senate must prioritize confirming all of Biden’s pending judicial nominees, including circuit court nominees Adeel Mangi, Karla Campbell, and Julia Lipez, who are dedicated to advancing justice for all. Courts shape the everyday lives of millions, and every pending Biden nominee must be confirmed before the year’s end.”
