Andrew Gillum: “We can’t let voter suppression win in 2020”

With the clock already ticking fast toward the 2020 elections, voter participation and voter suppression are a key focus for progressives. Make no mistake -- these anti-democratic voter suppression tactics are designed by the GOP to suppress the votes of specific demographic communities.

In a new op-ed in the Florida Sun Sentinel, former Tallahassee mayor and PFAW Senior Fellow Andrew Gillum outlines various ways how voter ID laws, voter purges and other voter suppression practices have been employed in key battleground states and urges progressives to take action to ensure that all voters have access to the ballot box.

“The picture seems bleak, but only by understanding the scale of the challenge can we make progress … Every single one of us who is eligible must register, make a plan to vote, and cast our ballots for candidates who will empower us, not suppress us. It’s not too early to take action now; trust me, the other side already is. Let’s not let voter suppression steal our dream of a democracy that works for all of us.”
