In September, Biden federal judges cast significant votes in ten cases around the country. These encompassed three cases on health-related issues, including an important decision upholding FDA authority on regulation of stem cell treatment, and six concerning law enforcement abuses. The latter included a significant ruling on behalf of man with mental illness who was improperly kept in solitary confinement for more than 26 years.
Each case is summarized below, along with a link to the full People For the American Way Foundation blog entry on the decision and to the ruling itself. Such rulings by Biden judges demonstrate the importance to all of us of promptly nominating and confirming fair-minded federal judges.
The Biden White House and Senate Democrats have been working hard to rebalance the courts after four years of Senator McConnell’s brisk pace of confirming Trump judges. As of October 9, the Senate has confirmed 213 Biden judges, compared with 218 confirmed by McConnell at this point in the Trump presidency. More work remains necessary when the Senate returns after the November elections. Updated statistics can be found here.
