After a “700 Club” viewer asked Pat Robertson how he remains so modest, the televangelist responded that he his humble because groups like People For the American Way and different newspapers “all came after me.”
“It was good, the Lord blessed me by having those people beat me up,” he said.
Robertson, of course, blamed PFAW and liberals for the September 11 attacks and told PFAW founder Norman Lear that by criticizing Robertson he was attacking God: “Norman, you are not merely trying to silence a member of the press, you are trying to silence a prophet of God. I warn you with all solemnity -- Norman, 'Your arms are too short to box with God.' The suppression of the voice of God's servant is a terrible thing! God himself will fight for me against you -- and he will win.”
