Washington, D.C.— As the House Judiciary Committee today held a hearing for the Democracy For All Amendment (H.J. Res. 2), People For the American Way Executive Vice President for Policy and Program Marge Baker released the following statement:

"It is very exciting to see the Democracy For All Amendment finally getting its first hearing in the House, at a time when we need it more than ever. Ten years ago, the disastrous Citizens United ruling upended our politics by giving billionaires and giant corporations free rein to purchase as much influence as they can. We have been reaping the consequences ever since, in the form of a government in thrall to the richest of the rich.  The Democracy For All Amendment will fix this by allowing reasonable limits on the raising and spending of money on elections.  It will advance a democracy truly of, by and for the people. It's past time for this proposed amendment to become reality."
