WASHINGTON D.C. – Following Donald Trump’s announcement that he will nominate Kash Patel to head the FBI, ousting current FBI Director Christopher Wray before the end of his term, People For President Svante Myrick released the following statement:
“If anybody doubted that Donald Trump intends to turn the Justice Department into his personal Department of Retribution against political enemies, his nomination of Kash Patel should put that doubt to rest. Patel has openly vowed to go after journalists and others who have disagreed with Trump. People who worked with Patel in the first Trump administration, including former Attorney General Bill Barr, have been extremely critical of his record and lack of qualifications. Patel is a disastrous choice for a role that is supposed to be about keeping Americans safe, not persecuting his authoritarian boss’s critics. Republican senators must not be a rubber stamp; they know how to stand up to Trump. It is imperative that they oppose this outrageous nominee.”
